Rush is a 2013 American biographical sports film directed by Ron Howard and written by Peter Morgan. It tells the story of the 1976 Formula One season, in which two drivers from very different backgrounds compete for the world championship. Gareth Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) is a 28-year-old Englishman who debuted in Formula One in 1975. He later joined JPS Lotus in 1979 and won the 1981 World Drivers' Championship in his first full season. A year later, the team's owner Colin Chapman died, and Hunt took over the team, which was renamed "Jaguar". Hunt dominated F1 for two years, but was involved in a severe crash at the 1982 United States Grand Prix that nearly killed him. Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl), a young Austrian just out of his driving apprenticeship, saw Hunt's crash and was inspired to start practicing for his own racing career. He impressed "Scuderia Ferrari" team leader Enzo Ferrari and was hired as a driver for 1976. Lauda became the youngest champion by 11 points in 1977, but the following season he was nearly killed in an accident at the Italian Grand Prix, suffering severe burns to his face. He made his comeback at the German Grand Prix, finishing fourth (he would retire before the end of the season). After his crash, he remained sensitive to pain; he had to wear special gloves with sensors that would trigger air bags within his car if an emergency brake handle were pulled too quickly. Lauda won the championship again in 1984, but after his retirement F1 went through an unstable period of rule changes, financial problems and rumors of big-money teams fielding pay drivers. Lauda is now the non-executive chairman of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, which has won the past three Drivers' Championships with Lewis Hamilton (2008), Jenson Button (2010) and Sebastian Vettel (2011). After winning in Germany on August 2, 2014 (one year, to the day, after his first win with Mercedes), Hamilton led Lauda around Silverstone circuit's grass infield in celebration. A few years before his death, Lauda became friends with Hunt, who also introduced him to Bob Dylan, whom Lauda began listening to avidly. Lauda's wife, Marlene, died in 2008; the sequel deals with how he deals with her death.Writing for "TheWrap", Richard Lawson said that "the film just doesn't do justice to the true story of how these two driving icons met and fell in love." A positive review came from Justin Chang for "Variety", who wrote "Almost nothing in Ron Howard’s rarified biopic of James Hunt’s fraught fight for Ferrari is made up or embellished. cfa1e77820
